VA Certification/Registration Clerk

Position Summary:
Under limited supervision, compute and code data according to established guidelines while exercising independent judgment in the application of policies and procedures within the unit.
Requirements: Duties and Responsibilities:
Organize and maintain office files and student records including confidential materials
Examine, check and verify documents applicable to a specialized subject area requiring independent informational searches and a knowledge of policies and procedures
Code, tabulate and assemble academic information and related data including standard forms, correspondence and records
Verifies, complies and oversees eligibility for students in special military programs by complying with established rules and regulations (such as TA and VA requirements)
Greet and assist students, faculty, staff and the public by providing information relative to the area assigned
Prepare for formal audits and reviews of student records for inspection by the Veteran's Administration and State Approving Agency
Utilize the VA Once system to accurately certify students in a timely manner
Maintain adequate VA records to show progress of each veteran or eligible student.
Keep VA informed of the enrollment status of Veterans and other eligible persons. Use basic forms to keep VA informed.
Keep up-to-date on current VA rules and benefits
Identifies discrepancies with transcript evaluations, troubleshoots and reports issues to the Articulation/Degree Certification officer as they arise
Participate in cross-training throughout the department
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent certificate and a minimum of two years' experience directly related to the duties specified is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the office management policies, methods and procedures
Ability to independently interpret a wide variety of policies and procedures
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to write clear and concise reports
Ability to gather data and complete routine assignments independently with general instructions
Ability to plan and organize the work flow of the unit
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, administrators and others
Ability to work in an environment of constant interruptions via telephone and walk-in traffic
Strong customer service skills

Work is performed inside during normal work hours
Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push pull or otherwise move objects.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
