Accounting Clerk I

Position Summary
Under limited supervision, process and issue payment of operational liabilities, data entry, verifying correctness, and posting of transactions.
Requirements:Duties and Responsibilities:
Process and maintain documents for the imaging program
Research POs and create folders
Track and log issue checks, purchase orders, and PROTECHs
Process daily mail
Maintain the W9 database
Check accuracy of data input on check runs
Disburse travel advances
Prepare and mail checks
Assist in work load of student employees as needed
Inform departments of proper procedures to see that they are followed
Communicate with vendors, faculty, and staff
Research payments
Process various data entry functions
Assist in the preparation of fiscal year-end payable list and assist with calendar year-end 1099 income tax reporting
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent certificate and a minimum of one year experience in the duties specified is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices, including the keeping of financial accounts and records and preparation of reports
Knowledge of budgetary practices and procedures and proper office methods and procedures
Skill in the use of standard office equipment including scanner, desk calculator, typewriter, and word processing equipment/data entry equipment
Ability to perform moderately complex bookkeeping and financial record-keeping work
Ability to pay attention to detail
Knowledge of procedures and regulations established and maintain effective working relationships with others
Working Conditions:Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is performed during normal work hours
Work is sedentary in nature, but must be able to lift and carry paper boxes weighing up to 50 lbs
Work requires reaching, handling objects with the use of arms and fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
