HSI STEM Outreach Coordinator

Note: This position is funded through a grant from the US Department of Education and is subject to funding approval each year from the US Department of Education for this position's continuation.
Position Summary:
The Outreach Coordinator reports to the HSI STEM Project Director. The HSI STEM Outreach Coordinator will develop and pilot transfer, outreach and success initiatives for college-bound high school students and community college transfers, develop STEM-specific orientations to assist students' entry into STEM programs, and support other grant initiatives that enhance students' continuation and success.
Requirements:Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop outreach initiatives to foster STEM academic planning and preparation in high schools, especially through engagement with STEM competitions (Early Engagement Initiative).
Coordinate with area community colleges to facilitate STEM transfers to 4-year institutions.
Developing and facilitating a STEM-specific orientation for entering freshmen and transfer students that aids students' transition from high school/ 2-year college to a 4-year institution of higher education.
Provide ongoing support for STEM students in their academic and career planning, in collaboration with other staff and faculty.
Regular and Predictable attendance required
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline, Education, or related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of three years' experience in education, communication, or business; experience with online systems, testing/training systems, and productivity software; previous teaching/training experience and English/Spanish fluency are preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication skills for interaction with students from the high school through early college levels as well as with STEM teachers and 2-year college faculty is essential.

Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Work requires talking, reaching, and handling objects with the use of arms and fingers; and hearing and seeing.
Some travel will be required to area high schools and junior/community colleges for outreach activities. This position will require the incumbent to obtain a defensive driving certificate through the university.
Work is typically performed inside during regular working hours.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
