Career Counselor

Position Summary:
Under limited supervision by the Director of Counseling and Career Services, the position will provide comprehensive, high-quality, personal and career counseling services.
Requirements:Duties and Responsibilities:
Requires the ability to establish rapport with others as a requisite for healthy and therapeutic relationships, the counselor will facilitate students in the process of resolving personal issues.
Personal counseling services expected are conducting intake interviews, providing mental health assessments, conducting counseling in individual and group settings, and making appropriate referrals.
Maintaining appropriate clinical documentation and providing crisis intervention services in the absence of the Director are also necessary.
Prepare students to successfully enter the job market and/or pursue advanced studies.
Assist students in clarifying career goals, researching employment and opportunities for advanced degree study.
Develop strategies for students to successfully secure employment.
Strategies include preparation of resumes and cover letters, practice interview sessions, and researching specific employers.
Administer and interpret various career and personality inventories.
Prepare programs and present topic workshops relevant to mental health, wellness and/or career development.
Plan and implement employment fairs.
Arrange on-campus or site employment recruitment interviews.
The position will serve on community and university committees as requested and assist with student affairs initiatives such as new student orientation, retention efforts, student employment, and student workshops.
Other related duties may be assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Master's Degree in Counseling or a relevant field such as Psychology, Social Work, or College Student Development is required.
Ability to meet New Mexico licensure requirements for LMHC or LPCC within 90 days of employment, (see New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Board Article 9: 1-30 or equivalent licensure in profession) is required.
Experience interacting effectively with college students from diverse ethnic backgrounds is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the progression of student and career development as well as have a record of professional conduct consistent with the university and state code of conduct.
Knowledge of Holland Codes, CHOICES, SII and MBTI
Working Conditions:Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is performed inside in a non-smoking facility with regular work hours, and will require some evening and weekend hours to meet operational needs and for on-call crisis counseling.
Physical effort or exposure to physical risk may be, but are rarely required.
Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
